Salt Marsh Contracting has the expert experience needed to handle the most difficult historical preservation projects. From design and permitting to building final, we have successfully preserved multiple historical homes established as early as the late 1800's. We have a passion for restoring old homes and emphasizing the charm of building materials and techniques used over 100 years ago.
Historical Preservation
Historical preservation projects are a passion of ours. Restoring and preserving old world building techniques and materials is not only fun but also environmentally sustainable. We love restoring old staircases, fireplaces, exposing old heart pine joists and decorative columns, interior doors, and hardware; the list goes on. Historical preservation work is equal parts rewarding and grueling. The countless man hours that go into a preservation project is not for every contractor. Salt Marsh Contracting excels by using our in-house general labor crew to make the job more concentrated for us, and less expensive for our clients.
Historical projects can be tricky to permit, especially those under the purview of the Board of Architectural review in downtown Charlston. We have worked to gain the experience, contacts, and expertise necessary to get your project through the permitting process. Our extensive experience with historical projects includes raising homes to FEMA required flood heights, duplex to single family, triplex to single family, period appropriate additions, and full rehabs. We have completed multiple successful historical projects approved by the BAR and the City of Charleston.
